SPB Paving Blocks: Pavement Made from Plastic Waste and Industrial Discard
Every paving project starts with the same question: what will it be made of? At Meemansa SPB, our answer is Silica Plastic Block (SPB), a composite of waste plastic and industrial discard, compressed hydraulically into durable paving. This is the first post in a weekly series on the SPB range, and it begins with the Paving Blocks category.
What goes into an SPB paver
SPB pavers are made from waste plastic combined with industrial dust, foundry waste sand and other inert discards. The plastic is the kind that is hard to recycle by other routes, including multilayer packaging (wrappers) and single-use plastic. The result is paving made from wasted resources, which also reduces the use of cement, natural sand and water.
The resource impact listed on our product pages is 0.4 to 0.7 kg of sand, fly ash or construction and demolition waste, together with 0.3 to 0.6 kg of low-value plastic. The blocks are water resistant and come in natural shades that follow the material composition, so each one carries its own texture and variation. At the end of their useful life, they can be recycled at an SPB production centre.

The paving range
Seven products sit in this category today. Five are available now and two launch in December 2026.
Z9 Zig Zag Interlocking Paver Block: 225 x 112.5 mm, in thicknesses from 25 to 80 mm. An interlocking pattern for walkways, parking areas and industrial pathways.
Rectangular Paver Block: 200 x 100 mm, 25 to 50 mm thick, about 4.6 pieces per sq ft.
Square Paver Block: 150 x 150 mm, 25 to 50 mm thick, about 4.1 pieces per sq ft.
Landscape Garden Paver: 200 x 150 mm, 25 to 50 mm thick, about 3.1 pieces per sq ft. Its hollow centre makes it lighter per sq ft than the solid blocks.
Cobblestone Paver Block: 100 x 100 mm, 25 to 50 mm thick, about 9.3 pieces per sq ft. Suited to garden pathways, courtyards and decorative paving.
TL 33 and Z10-4.5 tiles: launching in December 2026 (details below).
The square and cobblestone blocks are available on request.
How they perform
For the Z9 zig zag and rectangular blocks, laboratory testing indicates M30 grade equivalent performance at 40 mm thickness. Laboratory abrasion and wear testing indicates roughly three times better performance than conventional cement pavers. These figures come from laboratory testing and apply to the blocks named here.
Planning quantity, weight and cost
Three numbers help you plan a pathway or parking area: pieces per sq ft, weight per sq ft and price per sq ft.
Solid blocks of a given thickness weigh the same per sq ft: about 3.5 kg at 25 mm, 4.2 kg at 30 mm, 4.9 kg at 35 mm, 5.5 kg at 40 mm and 6.8 kg at 50 mm. The Landscape paver is lighter because of its hollow centre, at about 2.9 kg per sq ft at 25 mm and 5.7 kg at 50 mm. Weights are indicative and vary with material composition.
As an illustration, 1,000 sq ft of walkway in 40 mm rectangular pavers needs about 4,600 pieces and weighs about 5.5 tonnes. At the listed price of Rs 70 per sq ft, the material comes to about Rs 70,000, including GST, ex-Anand and unpacked, excluding freight.
Thicker pavers cost more per sq ft because they use more material. For the standard blocks, prices rise from about Rs 44 per sq ft at 25 mm to about Rs 70 at 40 mm and Rs 87 at 50 mm. The Landscape paver is priced lower, from Rs 36 per sq ft at 25 mm to Rs 72 at 50 mm. Prices are for material only and include 18% GST. They are quoted ex-Anand and unpacked, and freight applies for other locations. Please check the product page for current rates.
Coming in December 2026
Two tiles launch in December 2026. TL 33 is a 330 x 330 mm tile for both pavement and wall cladding, in 15, 20, 25 and 30 mm thicknesses, with a 2 mm protruding square matrix on the underside that grips the bed or the wall.
Z10-4.5 is a single tile with the top look of 4.5 zig zag blocks of 10 inches, in 15 to 40 mm thicknesses. Built-in spacers keep a constant gap between tiles, and one tile lays the equivalent of 4.5 zig zag blocks in a single placement. Enquiries for both are welcome.
Where these pavers fit
Walkways, garden pathways, landscaping, courtyards, parking areas, industrial pathways, and residential and commercial spaces.
